Alicia Thompson has over three decades of leadership experience in public relations and corporate communications. She is passionate about leveraging this expertise to coach and mentor leaders to achieve their professional goals. Five years ago, she founded Signature Leadership LLC, an executive coaching consultancy, to equip others to navigate their personal and professional pursuits by leveraging their unique leadership and communication styles.

Prior to starting her entrepreneurial journey, she served as vice president of Communications for Randstad US and Randstad Digital. Thompson has also served as vice president of Communications for Edible Arrangements, managing director of Porter Novelli Atlanta, and general manager of Edelman Atlanta. Prior to Edelman, she spent nine years leading the communications team at Popeyes® Louisiana Kitchen. Earlier in her career, Thompson held positions at The Coca-Cola Company, BellSouth, Fletcher Martin Ewing and Cohn & Wolfe.

Thompson holds a bachelor's degree in English from UNC-Charlotte and a master's degree in speech communications from UNC-Greensboro. She has earned notable recognition, including induction into PR Week’s Hall of Femme, PRSA Georgia’s Order of the Phoenix, the Network Journal’s Top 25 Black Women in Business and the Atlanta Business League’s Top 100 Black Women of Influence. She is the recipient of four PRSA Georgia Phoenix awards and the chapter’s George Goodwin Award in recognition of her significant contributions to the community. She is accredited by the Universal Accreditation Board and holds an Executive Coaching Diploma from Emory University Executive Education.

Thompson serves on the College of Charleston Department of Communications Advisory Council and the Alliance Theatre Advisory Board.

.: Where are you from?

Greensboro, North Carolina

.: Which schools did you attend, and how did they prepare you for your career?

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and my Master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Though I am now an executive coach, I spent 30+ years in the Communications/PR space. The universities from which I graduated prepared me for my career by providing a strong foundation in communication skills, critical thinking and strategic planning. The courses of study hones my ability to craft compelling narratives, a cornerstone of my career journey,

.: How did the idea for your business come about?

Pablo Picasso said, "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." I have always believed that we are on this earth for a purpose and when you discover your purpose, you are meant to fulfill it. Through coaching, I found my purpose; thus I founded Signature Leadership, LLC to help others through executive leadership coaching to fulfill their professional goals and drive organizational impact.

.: How did you come up with your company name?

I believe that every individual has a unique leadership style, a style as differentiated as one's signature; thus Signature Leadership was born.

.: Who was most influential in your development and drive to move forward?

My mother and brother have been my strongest advocates and supporters as I embarked on this entrepreneurial journey. They watched me grind in the corporate world for 30+ years and they new that my heart wasn't happy and that I needed to go where my heart wanted to be, where it felt happy and healthy [Sangeeta Rana].

.: How do you market your business, and which tactics have been most successful?

Thus far I have marketed my business the old fashioned way...word of mouth/reputation/network. I keep my website current and I also publish blogs/thought leadership weekly. I also do podcasts and speaking engagements to further generate exposure for me and my business.

.: Anything new on the horizon for you in the near future?

There are no significant new plans on the horizon. I remain focused on growing my business and helping other fulfill their full professional potential through executive coaching.
